A Story Yet Told
Denver, CO (FPC) - - As I was standing on the corner of 26th Avenue East at Welton Street awaiting a friend to join me for our plans to warm from the Colorado Chill at Blackberries Coffee and Ice Cream, several people drove up and ask me where the Crossroads Theater was located. Of course I knew, for my friend and I were planning to take in a night of theater and see the Musical Workshop, Sistas and Storytellers.
In offering suggestions for parking it came to mind the history of Five Points is being revisited. As we were embarking on the opportunity to see music legends of today, such as Hazel Miller, Denver's own diva and Yvonne Brown whose powerhouse voice is not to be easily forgotten.
As with any Historic shopping district the Five Points inner urban community is evolving with specialty shops, boutiques, eateries balancing its preservation of the past. The 41st celebration of Kwanzza and commencement ceremony sponsored by the Kwanzza Committee of Denver reflected african-american heritage roots and cast Historic Five Points as an foremost original shopping district.
"My Folks don\'t want me to talk about slavery" a story told by the Federal Writers Project offered a story of people whose contribution to the American Landscape may at times become obscure. At many times is has lead to shadowed recognition of the originality, creativity and excellent work and performance, but anything less than Bravo for Sistas and Storytellers means the critic got it wrong.
This sold out performance brings anew audience to Denver's Downtown, creating a wonderful choice from entertainment offerings throughout the metro area. Sistas and Storytellers, presented by Black Swan Talent and Promotion co-written by Sheryl Renee closes tonight December 27, 2007 from its run in Historic Five Points. The production's next performance will be in Maui, Hawaii.
So there you have it! The history that has made five Points an entertainment mecca still reigns and the next time, take the "D" train and you can be a part of history. Crossroads Theater is located in Denver's Heart and Soul, 2590 Washington Street. Adjacent to a Denver national landmark, the Historic Rossonian Hotel.
